“Energy
for all – A challenge for all” energy conference took place in The Hague during
26-27 November 2008. Mr. Elchin Mammadov represented Azerbaijan Youth
Euro-Atlantic Organization.
At the
beginning of conference Mr. Ian de Jong (Director General for
European Cooperation at the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs) commented about
IEA World Energy Outlook. Then in the opening session
Mr. Geert Greving (head of Public Affairs for GasTerra,
Groningen) mentioned about today's primary energy sources, the world’s energy
infrastructure, projections of future energy consumption and supply patterns as
well as supply and demand growth dynamics.
After this part Mr. Steven Everts (European Commission,
Special Counsellor in the Cabinet of Javier Solana, the EU's High Representative
for the CFSP, Brussels) and Mr. Thierry Legendre (Policy Adviser in the Private
Office of the Secretary General at NATO Headquarters, Brussels) provided an
overview about The Geopolitics of Energy and Energy Security.
In the second part of the first day Mr. Gerard de Nazelle
(Global manager Innovation & Research at Shell Global Solutions, The Hague)
gave an introduction in technology solutions to satisfy the world’s
growing energy needs. At the end of the day Mr. Benjamin Cade Canavan (Second
Secretary, Embassy of the United States of America in The Hague) closed the
session with resource of nationalism.
Second day
started with Mr. Rob Kool’s (Manager Energy & Climate Cooperation EU at
SenterNovem, Utrecht) presentation about climate changed and this was followed
by discussions on this issue. After the session Dr. Norbert Both (Speechwriter,
Global Editorial Services, Shell International, The Hague) gave comprehensive
information about Shell Energy Scenarios to 2050 and answered the questions.
In the second
part of the day participants discussed the most important problems into three
groups: 1.Shell Energy Scenarios, 2.The Geopolitical Aspects of Climate Change,
3.Geopolitics and Energy Security. At the end of conference, results of
workshops presented by group moderators.
