On the 12th December the member of Azerbaijan Youth Euro-Atlantic Organization, Shahla Balakishiyeva has participated in the International Conference of International YATA in the headquarters of NATO in Brussels, Belgium under the name of “Are we winning the fight against international terrorism and does NATO have a role to play in this fight?”.
The working day started with the welcoming remarks and Briefing on NATO’s Current Agenda which were done by Dr. Stefanie BABST, Head NATO Countries, and Public Diplomacy Division. Later John P.Colston, NATO Assistant Secretary General for Defense Policy and Planning Division did Briefing on NATO’s role in the fight against terrorism. Harald Thorud, International YATA President informed the guests about the Conference and activities of the Organization till today. Then participants were divided into some working groups in order to work on the final paper which would be presented to the Secretary General of NATO and to conclude their ideas about fight against terrorism. In this work the working groups were assisted by Yeter YAMAN, Information Officer for Turkey, Azerbaijan and Central Asia, Public Diplomacy Division, Carmen K. LEZZI, Vice-President for Outreach and Public Diplomacy and Kristina OBER, YATA Vice-President for Education. Then the leaders of the working groups talked about why they come to that conclusion. In the evening Secretary General joined to the conference and The YATA President, Harald THORUD Presented the Common Position Paper on NATO’s role in the fight against terrorism and essays of the participants to NATO Secretary General, Jaap de HOOP SCHEFFER.
The wrap up session was done with Mr. Jean FOURNET, NATO Assistant Secretary General for Public Diplomacy, Dr. Stefanie BABST, Yeter YAMAN and YATA Board.
